-
Courts, guilds, and houses were presented as central parts of the player experience.

-
These groups help shape the social, political, and narrative life of the event.

-
Volunteering was framed as an important part of how Hynafol functions.
-
Jordan highlighted that volunteer roles help the event run smoothly and also make it easier for newer players to get involved.

Full Video Transcript
Jordan: All right, everyone, welcome to the IFL Zoom call for the February expedition, we’re going to go over the codex and then do a couple of really sweet, awesome announcements. so I’m gonna screen share and just kind of walk through the codex step by step, and I’d love for you to ask me questions.
So if you want to ask me questions, go ahead and hit the, react button down there at the bottom.
And raise your hand.
There’s a button that’ll pop up on your screen like that, and then I’ll call on you and it’ll be lots of fun. but the whole idea for this call is to go over what we’re going to do in February.
If you’re new here, welcome.
We do events we call expeditions.
What is it? 6 times a year, and then we do a couple of other ones.
We do a courtly night, which is mostly surrounding politics, and then a fantasy ball in the summer.
And so tonight we’re gonna talk about the February expedition, which is known as the siege.
And so here is the handy dandy.
Codex, that we like to call it. this is basically the document, that, you, everything you need to know about the event if you’re coming and it is convened by the court of valor. so I won’t read this all because I believe in you and you can read the narrative document, but this kind of lays out what is going to happen and why it’s happening.
This is your lower drop, if you will, for the weekend.
And then, moving on from there, here’s some basic information.
So, the event is from February 20th to the 22nd, so you arrive Friday.
We start Friday evening with an opening ceremony.
Things run all evening, all day Saturday, and then we pack out and head out on Sunday.
It will be located at Valkyrie Ranch, and the host is the Court of Valor with King Arthur. here’s the prices to get in.
If you have questions about things, this is something that comes up all the time.
If you have questions about the game or the experience itself, please send those to gm@Hynafol.com.
If you have questions about tickets and other general things, just general information, go ahead and send it to information.
If you would like to volunteer, hit up volunteers at Hynafol.com.
If you have questions about camping and other logistic things.
Feel free to email logistics at Hynafol.com.
Oops, nope, I don’t want to go to my email. if, please do not email GM at Hynafol.com for things that are not related to the gameplay and the experience. poor Taylor gets like dozens of emails a week about.
Things that are not that.
She just answers things about the game.
Let everybody else do cool things.
If you have an emergency on site, call 911.
And if you need to get a hold of somebody from Hynafol on site, feel free to probably text this phone number first and then call again if you have an emergency, dial 911.
If you’re on site and you need help, you don’t have your phone, no problem.
Just look for the people wearing orange and green.
We’re out and about all the time, all over.
Anybody wearing orange and green will know how to get you some help one way or another.
OK, again, here’s some general information.
It’s repeated twice on purpose because often people ask me the same questions over and over again. here’s some information about arrival and the gates and how they work.
So this is the address you will put in your GPS to get there. when you get there, you will drive through the gates and head on into where the parking is located and check-in will be in a big orange and green Hynafol tent next to the parking.
Please have your ticket ready for scanning.
If your ticket isn’t scannable, no problem, just have your ID, we’ll look you up, not a problem.
You will get in. character registry and expedition pay, so all participants must complete their registration upon entering the event at the ledger.
So that is our new location in, you know, kind of in the game, where you’ll verify your character information and receive your starting currency as well as your citizen card.
OK, on Friday, you can arrive anytime between 12 and 8.
Cars need to be parked by 8:00 p.m. in the parking lot.
We’ve had some problems, last event in particular, where people, We’re parking all over the place.
Please park in the parking lot.
Leave the campground for camping.
I know that that might be an inconvenience to you, but it is for the overall safety and decorum of the event. there’s nothing worse than trying to have fun, roleplay or sleep, and then there’s a car shining their light in your eyeballs while you’re doing so.
So please park in the parking lot.
We will be, Enforcing that, we will also be implementing a parking pass.
So when you come to the event, we will ask you to fill out a thing with your license plate and whatever, and you’ll hang it in your window.
We will tear it off and we will keep the other half so we know whose car belongs to who, and we can come find you.
If you don’t park in the parking lot, we will come find you and ask you to park in the parking lot.
We need you to park in the parking lot.
Hopefully that’s exceedingly clear.
OK, and then, Friday check-in is open until 10:00 p.m. in and out privileges are available throughout the duration of the event, so you can come and go as you please, but after 10:00 p.m. there won’t be somebody there dedicated to check you in.
OK.
And then Saturday arrivals begin at 8 and end at 6.
If you haven’t arrived by 6:00 p.m. and you bought a ticket, we’ll still let you in, but you’re going to miss most of the things and it will be, you know, most of the things are wrapped up by then and it’s just the evening activities that are happening.
OK, this is all the stuff that I just said. age policy, minors are allowed only when accompanied by a parent or legal guardian, so you must be 18 years old to come to the event. if you’re bringing your child, you need to sign this waiver.
If you click this link, it will go to the waiver. all weapons have to be checked and you have to attend the safety briefing. so we offer that every single time.
It’s in the schedule.
I’ll show you, but we will go over how to use your weapons appropriately and what the behind to fall combat rules are.
It is recommended that you read through.
The Hain fall,. combat rules before attending the event.
It will help you, more clearly understand what the heck is going on when you’re fighting with foam covered sticks.
Next, photography and technology, this is your first time.
We don’t allow phones, cameras, and other personal recording devices.
In our play areas, we want to create a mystique of decorum that you’re living in a medieval fantasy world and so we don’t want you to have your phone out or a camera and take a picture.
We have photographers every event.
They come around.
If you want to take a picture, go into the non-decorum area and do selfies with your friends.
That’s all not a problem, but don’t take your phone out during the event. there will be food vendors on site.
There are no meal cards or meal packages. last time we had both Hadron’s Run.
And Rocco’s Hot Wings, all the food is awesome.
Please eat the food.
Just on that, as a note, I know that a lot of people bring their own food, which is totally fine and definitely allowed, but we often get asked like, why isn’t there more food available at the events, and it’s because those food vendors have to be able to make money for their time.
So if you want to see more food at Hynafol events, please eat some food, and that will help a lot.
Both places make really good food.
Hadron’s Run had a gumbo, I believe, last time that was incredible, and then Rocco’s Hot Wings are some of the best of all time, period, full stop.
OK, We do not have any transportation for this event.
The rules are all the standard rules, and if you would like to volunteer again, please,.
Hit that.
And then next, we need activities for each and every expedition.
So Hynafol is, you know, a lot is put on by the organization, the battles, and a lot of the stuff, but the stuff that actually makes the world come alive is all done by the players.
So you, the people that attend the event.
So if you have an idea for an activity that you want to do, we have evening slots on both Friday and Saturday night.
There is lots and lots of stuff to do.
You get rewarded with in-game points called renown points that your house or kingdom can use to do all kinds of special, awesome things in our, on our Carta Arcanum online game. and, yeah, so take a look at that form.
It is, there’s lots and lots of opportunities on there.
A couple of things to note is, if you would like to be an in-game, you know, a merchant or trade for barter for Hynafol coin and resources, we would like to hear from you and we can make sure that there is a spot saved for you so that you are.
A nice location with lots of traffic and you can set out your wares, that does help bring the world alive.
And so we want to have that. and, we are always looking for fun evening activities.
Our rules are really simple.
Make sure that they’re for everybody. obviously that they’re safe and that they’re fun, and your event will probably get, Approved.
OK, you can register online if you haven’t bought your ticket yet, do so soon.
The event is going to be awesome. we do have a day of registration and then, at check-in, all participants need to wear a wristband at all times.
That’s how we know you belong and that you are supposed to be there for the event.
I covered this already, but, all players should visit the ledger.
Hi, you got a question?
Go for it.
All right, so the line of volunteering that I put in, a request for a ticket exchange.
So you should hear back in the next couple of days.
Khan was working on them today.
Very cool.
Just making sure that like that my ticket exchange gone through or anything.
Jordan: Yeah, he’ll get back to you before the event..
Absolutely, he will, yeah.
Cool.
All righty, so you go to the ledger and that’s where you make sure that your character is registered and where you’ll receive your expedition pay and then this is in the same tent as the emporium, which is Hana Fall’s weapons and wardrobe vendor,.
Blade Bunny is always there and has lots and lots of awesome stuff, so make sure you check that out.
And then most of the stuff I’ve already covered, but it is primitive DIY camping.
So if you haven’t been to a Hynafol event before, please know that it is a very primitive camping.
You’re out in the middle of the Texas woods and you have to bring all of your own stuff.
RVs and trailers are allowed, but there are no utilities, and generators are allowed, but they must be, fitted for sound dampening, and, we can obviously request for you to turn them off if they’re too loud. there are water spigots and chemical toilets.
Philip:
Yes, specifically about RVs,.
I was, of course, camped in very decorum type camping, and about 50 ft away was somebody’s RV that ran their generator. 24/7 until he ran out of gas until 6:00 a.m. and it was, it was loud. in, incoming events, will there be a sort of a two-stage non-decorum, quiet non-decorum, closest to decorum, and then loud non-decorum farther away?
Jordan: Yeah, that is something that we’ve been talking about and we’re gonna see what we can do about that.
I mean, obviously, space is limited and we can only do so much, but yeah, we hear you.
Got it.
Cool. so there are, there is water on site.
There are chemical toilets, and we do provide hand sanitizing stations. there are no showers on site at Valkyrie Ranch, and like I said, food vendors are present. the information for that is at the bottom of it.
Kelsey.
Hi, I wanted to kind of on that note, ask about trash and like what we should anticipate for kind of the same deal, like what we bring in, we take out like prep bags and stuff.
Yeah, yeah, so, Hynafol events are intended to be pack in, pack out as much as humanly possible, there’s Only so much trash that we can handle and take care of.
So, please, you know, be as respectful and responsible as possible.
Obviously, we’ll take care of some trash, in the public areas, but often lots and lots of trash is left behind, and that should not happen.
If you’re camping, what you pack in, please pack out, you know, bring extra trash bags and prepare for that on your end.
Thanks.
Good to know.
Appreciate that.
Jordan: We should add that to the document.
Next, we do have a code of conduct at Hynafol.
I’m not going to go over it.
The code of conduct and full terms and conditions are linked here.
We do take it very seriously.
We do go over it in the new player orientation.
So if you’re going to be new, please come there so you can hear it firsthand from us.
But everyone is responsible for community safety.
The more fun and the more magic you make from people or you make for people, the more fun that you.
You’re going to have.
So we have zero tolerance policies on harassment, sexual or physical assault, among other things.
If you see any issues, please report them to the staff. we want to police those things.
We don’t want you to do it.
You’re there to have fun and have a good time.
So if you’re having a problem, please come talk to us. we are quite nice and we do care.
We really care and we want to help and you’re not an inconvenience.
OK. next, I mentioned this already, but the combat rules, And requirements.
So we do require that you, everybody comes to the mandatory combat safety briefing and that your weapon has passed a weapon calibration before participating.
All weapons have to have a band placed on them for the specific event to know that they’re safe, and we are going to be checking those and getting more and more strict to make sure that everyone has done that. the standard combat rules are here and the standard healing rules are here if you want to read through those and go through them.
And then now we’re on to the schedule. so I covered some of this, but, check-in begins at 120. if you would like to volunteer for the archives, that begins at 4 o’clock. the archives, can seem like it is daunting and scary, but it is not. it is a necessary part of the game.
So if you want to come out and help, make magic for other people and run quests and, you know, do some administration and that kind of stuff, at the event, please come out and you will get trained up to do so. the ledger in the emporium also opens at 4 o’clock and then weapons check runs from 4:30 to 7, so that is near the archives.
So please bring your weapons for inspection and they’ll be checked out.
The counting house opens, or sorry, the training for the counting house starts at 5, so same thing there.
The Three Crowns counting house is our bank.
It is what keeps the economy and political and military and all kinds of other fun actions happening. that turned into, you know, skirmishes and battles and wars and all kinds of fun roleplay. so if you want to help out on that side of things, we would love to help you come to that training.
And then the Three Crowns counting house is open for withdrawals at 6 o’clock until 8 o’clock.
So, that is to get your stuff if it’s in the bank.
So if you have stuff in the bank, please go get it and that way you can play with it all weekend long. from 8 to 9 is our new player orientation.
So we have a 60-minute intro to safety, how Hynafol works, and then, we’ll give you a little new player quest at the end of that. we try to make it fun and interactive, so we started a new, way that we do it last month, and it was very fun.
We’ll get you up and off your feet, and you will be LARP before you know that you’re LARP.
And then the opening ceremony is when the event officially starts, so that runs from 9 to 9:30.
You should have your costume on by that point, and we have a really fun show put on by the peasant players.
They come and give us an update on what’s going on in the world of Hynafol and then lead you right into the event so things can get started.
Directly after that, we have our court meetings.
So the court meetings are led by our court liaisons, and they are like, you know, the administrators or the messengers of each court, and so they’re going to bring you a few things. these court meetings are designed for it to be a first place for you to connect with other players.
So courts are designed, you should have chosen a court.
So if you haven’t gone on the website and picked a court, please do so. there’s all kinds of links right there on the home page for you to do that, and, they help, give you your alignment, so you kind of your viewpoint for the event and how you should think about things.
And then also they’re there for community.
So there are people from all over Hynafol in each court.
They’re not just one kingdom and kind of stuff.
There’s all kinds of people in all kinds of courts, and that’s your first opportunity to meet people.
And if you’re a veteran player, we would ask that you would come to your court meeting and if you see somebody you don’t recognize, introduce yourself, make friends, and maybe you will find a new house member in your court, which is very fun.
And then, directly after that, we will have, the introduction to, the guilds.
So guilds, if you’re new, are what you do.
It’s kind of like your job at Hynafol.
It’s how you get started.
It’s how you make a little bit of money, go on, you know, have some activities and things to do.
So if you want to do any of that, and there’s a whole document for that, and so you can go read that on our website. all of the guild leaders will be there to introduce themselves and, induct you into the house and get you started with any questions that you might have..
One to point out, and I think I mentioned this to the guild leaders, I was going to say this, we need more guardians.
If you like to protect things, if you like to seek out, ne’er do-wells and other people that like to steal things, we need you to put on a black and white tabard and protect the town. there were not enough guardians last event, and the thieves truly run amok.
So, if you like to foil thieves, come out and make that happen.
OK.
Next, Saturday is, pretty similar. so here’s all the times that the service is open.
And then here, from 9:15 to 9:45 is where the mandatory combat safety happens. there’s a little bit of time buffer here for you to head out to the battlefield, and then the first skirmish starts promptly at 10. there’s a break, skirmish 2. we have a nice long lunch break from 11:45 to 1. during that time frame, we will have an exhibition baseball match.
Maceball is like capture the flag, with swords and a giant foam looking metal, maceball and you score points by just like scoring a touchdown. so you move the mace up and down the field and score.
It’s very fun.
It’s fast-paced, go watch it.
It’s really cool. and then the 3rd skirmish will take place.
There’s a break, 4th skirmish, break, 5th skirmish, and then after the 5th skirmish, there will be a tournament.
So this month is the, duo champions, so that is full armor, all weapons except for bows and arrows, and 2 versus 2. the rules are down at the bottom of this and also a place to register.
And then we have a dinner break. we have the 3 crowns investiture.
So if you win something over the weekend, the tournament, a skirmish, any kind of payouts at all, you come to this meeting at the roundhouse, and that is where you get paid. if you’re fighting for somebody and they’re like, hey, if you come fight for me, in this skirmish, and I will give you a cut of the winnings or I’ll pay you after the battle.
This is where you go so that you know exactly when to be paid.
Everybody gets paid at that, at that time. and then of course, generals, and tournament winners can give speeches if they would like, just one last hurrah for winning a glorious day. so come to that. that is followed by the final court meeting. so everybody’s invited to that with their liaisons, and that will kind of be the book end of the roleplay side of things that will, you know, kind of wrap that up.
And then, the closing ceremony takes place, which will tell you the results of everything that you did for the weekend..
This month, all of the quests tie into the quests and the battles tie into the closing ceremony.
So you want to finish those, earn those, win those, and you guys control what happens there.
So it is all tied together.
It’s going to be very exciting.
And then from 10:00 to midnight, we have various player-led activities.
So we have all kinds of fun stuff planned, and it’s all stuff that members of the community put on, which is very fun.
Questions on the schedule.
Nope, OK, great.
I see there’s a bunch of stuff in the chat, but if you want to ask something, you have to do the hand raising, cause otherwise I think you guys are just.
Talking in the chat and having fun, which is fine.
OK, next, it’s right, Jade’s got a question.
Hi, sorry, I was frantically looking for the raised hand emoji and I finally got it. so, as, one of the people that are putting on one of the evening events, for this event at nighttime, is there a, when we fill out the forms.
And you know what venue you’re going to have.
Is there a way to know, cause I know sometimes in the evening events, people get buildings, and they use buildings.
Is there a way to ask for one?
Is there a way for you to offer us one so that we know kind of what we’re working with, so we can plan ahead, just for planning’s sake.
Jordan: Yeah, we can put that in the form from now on.
Yeah, thank you.
I haven’t thought of that.
Great idea.
All righty.
Joining a side, so each skirmish has two sides.
You are encouraged if you want to participate in those battles, to go and, approach somebody that is fighting for one of those sides.
If you see a battle on the schedule, you can just show up and fight.
There are no limits or caps. if one side is vastly outnumbered, we will.
You know, talk to each side and ask them if they would like to capitulate.
If they would, then we will divide everybody up in half and make sure that the battle is fun and even.
Otherwise, we’ll play it where it lies and the two sides will battle it out.
But you can just go up and show up and say, Hi, I’d like to fight on your side, and they will say, OK.
Now, they might not pay you or anything like that.
That’s up to you to negotiate and roleplay, but you are very encouraged to go to all the battles and fight in them if you would like. again, you’re encouraged to, attend a To join one of the five courts.
And then lastly, all players are encouraged to join a house at Heine Fall.
Houses are really the building block of Heine Fall society. they’re the ones that, they’re all led by players, and they’re kind of their own organizations, but that is kind of how things get done at Haine Falls, the houses, you know, they all have their various, you know, takes on how they role play and how they approach things and what their goals are and what they want to get done.
In the event.
So feel free to go around, socialize, meet people and talk to people and ask if you can join their house if you find one that you like.
Next, everybody gets paid, so everyone will get one piece and one citizen cards. there is an update here on how much they produce citizen cards due in the Carta Arcanum. all quests completed receive a reward of either resources and or coin, and then all tournaments.
The top 3 placers in the tournament shall receive a reward.
And then another note on volunteering, there’s some stuff here on archives training that kind of expands on that.
So if you’d like to do it, actually, I should mention this about volunteering.
One of the things that we want to encourage is that volunteering isn’t just about getting a free ticket, though we do offer that.
You can have a ticket exchange, but it’s also a really great way to meet people and B, help.
Make some of the magic happen. a lot of people find that they kind of get connected into the experience when they volunteer because by volunteering, you’re by nature, helping other people.
And when you help other people, you know, you feel good. it helps make the world feel alive.
It makes the magic of Hynafol happen. and, it kind of takes Some of the pressure off of like, oh, do I role play?
How do I do this?
How do I do that?
When you volunteer, you just get told what to do and you do it and you’re bound to meet a bunch of people. so, help us make magic for other people. if everybody that came to an event volunteered just 1 or 2 hours, we would never have to ask for volunteers ever again. and it is also, you know, by the, by the By people volunteering for the event.
It’s one of the ways we, you know, get to keep the price as low as we have is that everybody kind of pitches in this kind of community-based effort and, we get lots of fun done.
Jackie: Yeah, I just had a question. is there any sort of special training for the player liaison, or is there anything important we need to know about that, kind of like the archives or anything? yeah, so volunteering for the ledger is actually quite simple.
Jocelyn, who’s not on the call tonight, but she would walk you through what to do. there’s a little binder on what to do, but basically, if, you know, if somebody has a problem, you, they’ll walk you through it, but it’s really simple.
You take a statement, you separate them, whatever they need in that moment, and then you escalate it to staff, and then we take care of it from there.
So.
Not complicated, not scary.
You’re just there to be a friendly, helpful face and help answer people’s simple questions, yeah.
Cool.
All righty.
I’ve already mentioned most of this. if you do have an accessibility or any kind of special needs, please email us and we would be happy to help you. and then, weather and safety.
So it is a rain or shine event.
It might be cold, it might be wet, it might be hot because it’s Texas. so make sure that you’re prepared for February evenings. and, Valkyrie Ranch is also, it is a primitive camping area, Also a wildlife preserve.
So please do not approach or make or attempt to make contact with any of the wildlife.
They’re all over the place.
They are large.
They are wild.
They are not tame.
You should not attempt to go near them.
You will see them off in the distance and they are cool to look at, but do not go.
Anywhere near them we have a note here on activities.
So instead of waiting to put out the codex this time, we put out the codex earlier and we’re going to add an addendum that we’ll put on the event page on the website once we have all those activities scheduled and ironed out, so you can look forward to that.
Same thing with quests.
There’s a little note here on the quest. just because the event is, you know, one court doesn’t matter.
Everybody is invited to participate in the quest and help make, things happen.
So the first quest goes out, at the, I believe at the court meeting.
I think we’re still doing that this time. yes, they do.
And then, from there, they are dropped off at the archives and then all quests from there start and end at the archives.
So you’ll always know where to go and how to do that.
I mentioned the guild activities, but there are lots of them for each one, so this kind of gives you a run through, and then if you’re more curious about guilds, please read this. same thing with evening activities, and then now we are on to the skirmishes. so the skirmishes are quite involved this time cause it’s a siege. they’re big and hairy and scary, and they should be really fun..
And then we have a note here on renown.
So something that we are beginning to implement is a new updated renown system. so the more aggressive actions you take, the more renown you get, and we’ll be updating how the how the renown then goes back into your guild through domain or your guild, your house through domain actions to boost your growth.
So that if you take a risk by attacking or being more aggressive in the Carta Arcanum, your actions will will reward you with renown points, and those renown points can be used on domain actions that will then bolster your growth on the back end.
So we want to backfill that.
So we’ll be putting out a larger thing about that, but the, this is kind of the beginning of it, as well as, the note here that each battle, the winner of that will get a relic that is required for the closing ceremony.
So, you want to get that, it’s a big deal.
It will be very fun.
OK, so the first battle is the Chebochet, which I probably mispronounced horribly, so if you speak French, my bad. it’s a single round, 30 minutes. it is outlined here. it is pretty straightforward, but it will be very fun.
So there’s one static objective, that’s 1 point per 20 seconds of control, and then 3 moving wagons, that are trying to get to their destination.
Pretty straightforward there. the second one is the ambush. so this one again, they’re all 30 minutes long.
And so the green side is trying to escort more banners and wagons through the battlefield than are stopped, and the orange side is trying to stop them. so they’re kind of laid out here. the third one is called the river crossing.
I wish that I had a river for you to cross, but I don’t, so it will be imaginary and it’ll still be very fun. so basically you are trying to put together things and components to make a fake ponton and move it across the river. lots and lots of stuff there.
Phase 4 is more of a straightforward, banner fight, but it is a new, mechanic in the battles that we want to test.
So you need to have a battle standard, that will be your mobile respawn point.
So that should be very fun. it is something that we have talked about rolling out and so this is our first kind of test of it.
It should be very fun to see how people decide to maneuver their battle standard all across the battlefield.
Mr.
Crow so for the battle standard, thing, are, is it gonna be where each house has to provide their own battle standard, or is there just going to be one provided for the blanket army? if you want to provide your own, that would be awesome and be much more decorum and fun.
If you don’t, we’ll give you a high of 5.
Yeah.
Cool, cool.
And then last but not least, the question.
Ryland:
Hawk just asked him in the chat if there’s a link for the activity submission.
He didn’t see it in the, in the announcements.
Yeah, and it’s here in the document.
I don’t want to scroll all the way back up, but it’s in there.
And if somebody else wants to drop it in the chat, that would be mucho awesome.
Otherwise, I can go back up here, I guess.
It is.
Oh.
How’s the evening activities.
I did not work.
Right here.
.
I can put that in the chat for you.
Oh It’s already there.
All right.
There you go, back to Battle 5.
All right, Battle 5 is the siege.
This one should be really fun. so basically, the, defenders have to keep up their battle standard and not have it be knocked down, and the attackers have to mock construct a battering ram, and then yes, we do actually have a real battering ram for you to pick up and smash into a door that we are constructing.
It’s going to be awesome. so, yeah, so those are the battles.
Any questions on the battles?
And and they’re all there.
I think they’re pretty straightforward.
Lots of directions here on the battering ram.
It’s gonna be really cool.
We have some skirmish purchases available.
The tournament rules are here, so if you want to fight in the tournament, get a buddy, get to it, a little description about baseball, and then a pre-event checklist.
Any questions on the codex, and if not, we’ll get to the fun stuff.
Great.
Ryland:
Hi, so my, Torna mentioned it earlier, but, Legion of Ragass submitted something for the, for the event, and it didn’t show, and I didn’t see anything, of it, on any of the dock or anything.
So, how do we know if we were accepted for that or so we can like actually figure out where we need to go for things?
Yeah, absolutely.
So, we didn’t put the evening activities in the initial codex release because it’s one of the things that delays it coming out.
OK, because we’re asking for players to, you know, come up with stuff that they want to do.
So instead, we’re going to release it as like an addendum as a separate little document that will say these are the evening activities for Friday and these are the ones for Saturday.
And you should be getting emails very soon about whether or not your thing is approved or not.
OK, thank you, thank you very much.
You’re welcome.
No problem.
All same thing with the battles.
So we’ve, we’ve asked houses to submit whether they want to take one battle or the other, and then we’ll put that out as well if it’s like, you know, house versus house and situation versus situation, who’s doing what.
OK. anything else? include the battle schedule, who’s fighting when.
Yes, it will.
Absolutely.
All righty, on to fun announcements.
So the first announcement is, that we have finished planning, all of the expeditions, at least the theme of them for the rest of the year, and then we’ll be ironing all the stuff out and, releasing codexes super early.
Adam.
I just wanted to be unmuted.
OK.
All right.
OK, so, for March is going to be known as the Trials.
It is a quest-based expedition. so we’re gonna be asking you to put together, adventuring parties, the battles will be squad-based.
There will be lots and lots of resources for completing all of the quests, and, we are also be asking for house, hosted quest activations, so that, we can get some more people involved and do some more complicated,.
You know, quest type things and so houses that volunteer for that or other groups that volunteer for that, you’ll be rewarded as if you had completed the quest during that same period of time to make it really fun.
Question from Kai.
All right, so on the line of the squad, what if we can’t find a squad before the event?
Jordan: Fantastic question.
You can do that in your court, and then we will, we’ve already discussed having that be part of the, like during the guild orientation time after that meeting, you can meet people there and we’ll help people build squads.
It’ll be very fun.
So everybody will have the opportunity to get in a squad.
OK.
April is going to be known as the Arcanum Academy.
So it’s going to be a magic-based event. so you’ll be able to learn lots about magic. there’ll be lots of magical resources in battles.
We’ll be having some kind of seminar slash class type things, but then everything will lead together to be kind of questy and magical and help you learn.
About magic and the history of magic and different things, in the, in the game. and so that will be taking place in April.
May is, of course, the festival of champions.
So that is lots of tournaments, lots of entertainment at night, lots of pageantry.
We’re going to really lean into the, medieval Olympics vibes there. there’s going to be river access, so this is the event that is at River Forest Haven.
It is not at, Valkyrie Ranch. it is going to be very fun.
It is going to be hosted by the Kingdom of Tides this year, and we are already asking other kingdoms, so we’re going to have the festival of champions be hosted by a kingdom. you know, just like a country would in modern Olympics. so if there’s any kingdoms that want to put a proposal together for what they would like to do for it for next year, please submit that.
You can send that to GM@ Hynafol.com. it’s gonna be very fun. and did I say there’s river access there in May?
It’s really quite nice. so it’ll be really fun.
That event is shaping up to be really big.
Ticket sales are really good. it’s looking like it’s going to be really fun.
Last couple of weeks when we did these calls, I had a bunch of people that were like, May is going to be my first event.
OK, and then, October is going to be known as the hunt. so it will be a monster-based event. so we will have big old monster battles, big old monster hunts, it will be a calamity monster hunting extravaganza with maybe a tis of, or because it’s so close to Halloween and maybe there will be some fake blood, only in specialized situations, and we’ll let you know about it before it happens, and it’s going to be awesome.
So that is your monster monster hunting. witcher vibes, come and get it.
There you go.
So that’s what’s happening.
Of course, the courtly night will remain the same, as last year with new twists to the politics, and we’ll have new stuff for you there. we’ll still be having a ball.
The Brevity Ball will take place this summer, and we’re still currently looking for a venue, and we’ll have more information for you soon.
So start putting together your fancy dancy outfits.
All right, so I’m not gonna take questions on that. there will be codexes out for all of those events and lots of opportunities for you guys to ask questions. on the Discord.
Next, the most Fun of exciting announcement of all. so, since the beginning of Hynafol, our dream has always been. and it’s been our hope to have a place of our own, something that was built, designed, and architected specifically for Hynafol, and so today I’m excited to announce to you all that we have actually broken ground on the future home of Heine Fall. so the property is located next door to Sherwood Forest Fair, which will always be our home for the grand gathering. and it includes 40 acres of beautiful forested Texas woodlands.
In the future, we will be building a complete medieval village, in our own unique style, right? so this will be complete with palisade walls, real buildings for the Three crowns counting house, the archives, the ledger, check-in, a building for each guild to host and house their operations.
So imagine a dedicated place for each one. it’s gonna be awesome. our own stages for bards to serenade audiences, as well as mages and priests to perform their rituals. our dreams are very big for this place. we’re very excited about it, and we hope to have lots of regular updates for you.
On the plans as we’re developing them, for places to stay, eat, drink, all that good stuff. for now, like I said, we have, begun breaking ground.
So we have cleared a bunch of the property, we’ve begun to outline and map it, and, we are, prepared to host our first expedition there in March.
So this will be our last expedition at Valkyrie Ranch.
It’s very exciting. we’ve got 7 weeks to get it ready, and we think we can do it. so, for the trials, we will have a tent village all set up alongside one repurposed building, that will serve as the home for the Three Crowns counting house and the archives. there’s ample parking or room for parking, decorum and non-decorum camping, and of course plenty of room to quest. in the future, we’ll be expanding the cleared areas of the property to make room for continued growth and hopefully very soon our first buildings. so for now, we’ve mopped up, a little image of what we hope you’ll drive up to someday in the future at the future home of Hynafol, and I will show you this.
It’s just a mockup.
We’ll see what it ends up looking like, but this is our hope, something like that. and then you’ll drive in the front doors and the parking lot will be behind there, but it’ll still be awesome.
So yeah, questions, comments. hi there, Jordan. for the, development, a little off topic, but, I’m a, I’m a civil engineer by trade, so soil testing, site planning, architecture, utilities, all that.
I do that planning as a job, so if you need any help, if you need any advice, like, feel free to ask,.
I have like ASTMs that I can look at.
I have UFCs.
I have a lot of engineering stuff because I work at an engineering squadron.
So if you need any help with civil engineering stuff or planning, GIS, whatever, feel free to throw a bone out there.
Amazing.
I do not know what half those acronyms mean, but I believe in you and we will, we will put out the call when it’s time.
Porno I was literally just gonna ask what, Reed asked in the chat, but, I know that at other LARPs there are opportunities for, people in houses to lease, buildings or rent buildings or own them,.
It have you worked out a plan for that yet, or is it in the works?
It’s all in the works.
Got it.
Awesome.
For now, we’re gonna make it a really awesome place to host expeditions and then we will iron out all of the things with.
I’ll comment a couple of things, just quick, just so you guys know.
Nothing’s confirmed yet beyond we’ve broken ground and we’re figuring it out.
So there’s probably 1000 questions you guys have that we can’t answer yet because there’s a billion things that we’ve got to figure out. so that’s 0.1.
So, but we do understand what everyone wants, we want it to.
Just so we all want the same thing.
We just gotta figure it out.
And the second thing is, there’s gonna be growing pains initially.
There’s gonna be, there’s gonna be a downgrade in quality from, going to the Valkyrie Ranch as we’re building it from the ground up.
So we need you guys to help understand that it’s very expensive and very complicated.
And so bear with us, we’ll get there.
Yep, Phillip.
So to tack on what Anthony said, I’m a mechanical, electrical, plumbing, fire protection engineer.
So if you need help understanding the acronyms, he said, call me.
I love it.
That sounds wonderful.
Absolutely.
Appreciate that.
Kai?
I am, I am really in awe because they designed for the front gate looks actually stunning.
Jordan: Thanks, it’s, it’s just a for fun design.
We’ll see what actually pans out. this is not what you’ll drive up to in March.
You drive up in March, there’s just bushes, yeah, but in the sky dreaming.
That, that would be kind of, kind of cool though.
Yeah, I’m not gonna lie, that’ll be pretty rad.
JP: So I’m sure you guys may have heard that Disney got a new CEO recently.
He’s the guy who was in charge of theme parks, and he, and they have a term called blue sky, which is like when they’re developing.
Attractions or new lands or things.
The term blue sky is, OK, everybody, just throw out the most wild ideas like if you could do whatever you want, money is no issue, time is no issue, logistics are no issue, whatever ideas you had.
So now I have to ask you if you could have like a blue sky, like this is like no problems other than, you know, just Getting stuff in the ground, getting shovels in the ground, what would you like to see, you know, in the future, like in a place like this, because I’m very curious, like what would you like to see that you think would greatly be, no budget, no budget, no time constraints, nothing outside of a trebuchet.
Which is the obvious answer, right?
A castle that can fit 1000 people.
Hell yeah.
Hell yeah.
Thanks, yeah, I don’t know.
That’s what I’d have.
Ryland, I appreciate the question, JP.
That was a good one.
Oh yeah, that’s amazing fucking question. pardon my French, OK, or is it my Royland dish?
I don’t know, the,.
What was I saying?
Right, so, And so, as someone who does volunteer rather frequently and lives in the Austin area, are you going to be asking for volunteer help with any of the stuff going on at the new site?
Yes, so we will, be having some work days, you know, it’s just raw Texas woods right now. so we will need, there’ll be lots of opportunities to come out, see the property,.
Clean up. there’s a lot of brush that needs to be removed.
There’s a lot of manual labor of little things that needs to happen.
And, we’ve got 7 weeks to do it.
We’ve made some pretty good progress already. but yeah, absolutely.
And those will go up on the schedule and emails and Discord and all that so that you guys can come on in how to reach me.
Sweet.
All right, crow.
I think it got mentioned briefly before, but my ADHD kind of pushed it out of my brain.
I heard something about that the Gigi will always be the Sherwood will always be the home of the Gigi.
Is that gonna be like a, I meant eventually, whenever the new location gets built up to be in, large enough, the the Grand Gathering will eventually move over there. is that, or is Yeah, I mean, I think for the foreseeable future, the, you know, Sherwood has the facilities and to make things exceedingly easy, for us to host the grand gathering, you know, but maybe someday we will use, the Hynafol village that is yet to be named..
Or maybe we’ll use both. we’ll have activations all over the place, you know, we’ll, we’ll just have to see how things pan out, but for the foreseeable future, we’ll be at, we’ll be at, Sherwood just because it has everything that we need.
OK.
Yeah.
Melissa.
Hi.
So, it sounds like there’s a lot of really skilled denizens, mundanely skilled denizens in, the world of Hynafol, and I was wondering if you guys had thought about, like, A sort of like email or something where we can send like, hey, I do this and I’d be happy to consult for free, or, hey, I do that and I’d be happy to, you know, give you guys a discount.
So that way you have like an email where people can send those things cause I bet that would be helpful to have free labor.
Jordan: That is always helpful, yes. it’s very generous of, of you to offer and a great idea. if that applies to you on this call, feel free to send an email to info@nfall.com and Jocelyn would be glad to put you on a list and, help us, get that sorted.
That would be great.
Cool.
It sounds like this is gonna get super amazing, er.
That’s the plan, as amazing as it can be.
Awesome.
Cool.
Thanks.
Yeah, thank you.
All righty. well, if nobody else has any more questions, that’s all the big news that I have tonight. we’re very excited for February.
Hopefully you’ll come out and, take part in the siege. like I said, the, The addendums for who’s fighting in which battle and evening activities will be coming out soon. volunteer forms are already on the Discord and ready to go.
They’ll also be up on the website very soon.
So if you’d like to volunteer, we’d love to have your help.
I guess one more question from Frederick. there you go.
All right, hello, can you hear me?
Sorry, I just had a quick question. it’s kind of subjective, really.
I was curious about, like, sorry, the grand gathering is giving my very first event, and I’ve never really done LARP or anything, but I’m, but I was curious about outside of like the regular budget that comes with all the one of the big purchases.
What would be a good amount of extra money to kind of bring to the event?
Jordan: Yeah, I think that depends on you.
Right.
So if you get a package that has meals, I would probably say you need significantly less money than if you got one that didn’t have meals and then you were, if you were going to come to the event and buy all your meals there. so I You know, it’s, it’s kind of subjective.
I, you know, I’d be really curious what, I’ve never gone to the event and not run it, so I don’t know what everybody else spends.
It’s actually a fantastic question.
I’m sure that lots of people have lots of opinions on that, you know, it depends.
Do you want to go shopping?
If you want to go shopping, that’s going to be, you know, variable, right? do you want to have drinks at the bar? right?
So those, you know, that’s a variable. and then, you know, the meals are all reasonably priced.
You can see the meals on the 2025, you know, grand gathering page and kind of get an idea of what you would spend if you were coming.
Other than that, wait, how much are drinks? well, they vary.
I don’t remember off the top of my head, but I wanna say like a glass of mead is like 6 dollars-ish, something like that.
They’re probably, they’ll probably say in the chat almost immediately cause everybody else knows.
I just don’t remember. but you know, something around there, 6 to $7 depending on what you’re getting.
Yes, OK.
Whatever this means.
Sorry, that’s not the most helpful question.
Usually I know everything, but I don’t know.
Yeah, not a ton.
I mean, once you’re in the door, most, you know, the entire experience is covered, right?
So there’s no like, you know, paywalls or anything like that to do various different things.
It’s really, do you have food to eat, do you have drinks to drink, and do you want to go shopping?
That will really depend on What you need.
Cool.
All right, everyone.
Well, thanks for being here.
I’m gonna do breakout rooms if you wanna stay and hang out and meet people, and then I’ll hang out here in the main, room if you want to talk shop and ask me anything at all.
I appreciate you all being here. have a great night.
Love you lots, and, we will see you in February.
